At dawn on Saturday morning my husband and I drove to Azusa, California. We pulled into the property of Church of the Open Door and parked. In the quietness and chill of the morning we stepped out of the car and embarked onto the trail.
Little did we know we were in for the most delightful hike. We began our trek up to our destination at the top of the mountain—the cross. As we ascended, we could see the sun begin to rise over the mountains behind us, a great distance away.
Metal and wooden signs pointed to God's truths throughout the trail.
As we neared the summit, we began to see snowcapped peaks in the distance—the aftermath of a California winter storm. Wherever there is an abundance of rain in California, there is sure to be an abundance of snow in (at least some of) the mountains.
At last we reached the cross at the end of our mile high journey. The early morning light glistened over Los Angeles. Two men, who had also just ascended, looked over the city and prayed. The peace and stillness of God that morning was evident.
What a gift. Thank you Lord.
This photo (and all the ones below) was taken on the hike described above in Azusa, California.
